The Global Action Network Action Plan includes arranging annual meetings, workshops and events, recognizing interested parties, and establishing connections to promote collaboration and interaction among cross-sectorial actors focusing on the important elements for food security from Healthy Waters to Healthy People.

COP28: Sustainable Aquatic Food Systems
Food security and nutrition within planetary boundaries

|
The Global Action Network will host an event during COP28 on the 10th of December 2023, together with CGIAR, EBCD, and Blue Food Coalition. This event will highlight the importance of integrating sustainable aquatic food systems in the green transition towards sustainable food systems.

Network Meeting 2023 Summary
|
|
|
The Network Meeting 2023 was held on the 24th of October 2023 at FAO Headquarters in Rome and on Zoom. This meeting attracted 165 participants from 59 countries, who represented government, research institutes, academia, NGOs, and industry. Together we shared current actions in support of the Network's mission and planned for 2024.

Experience in the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines)
|
|
|
This call is an important stock-taking opportunity for all and the results are expected to further inform FAO, governments, Small Scale Fisheries (SSF) organizations, NGO development partners, CSOs, research, and other partners initiatives to implement the SSF Guidelines at national, regional or global level.

Small Fish for Food Security and Nutrition
New FAO Fisheries & Aquaculture Technical Paper
|
|
|
A new FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Technical Paper titled Small Fish for Food Security and Nutrition is now published. The paper utilizes a human-centred perspective to explore the ‘small fish food system’, addressing drivers, scales, interactions, and multiple outcomes and trade-offs.

Integrating food and nutrition into fisheries and aquaculture management
|
|
|
Food and health outcomes are not well-integrated into fisheries and aquaculture policy or management, despite global expectations that aquatic foods will help address food system challenges. Our Fish in Sustainable Food Systems project is examining the implementation of food- and nutrition-based management objectives in fisheries and aquaculture, and the ways in which benefits can be measured in different contexts.

EAF-Nansen Programme showcases achievements in sustainable fisheries management
|
|
|
Marking over five years of fruitful collaboration, the EAF-Nansen Programme invited partners and stakeholders to Maputo, Mozambique for a Scientific Mini-Symposium followed by the final Programme Forum of its present phase. For four days, the participants shared experiences and explored what the future holds for the longstanding partnership between FAO and Norway.
